Baby Shower Headband Station

Do you sometimes wish you had the perfect idea for an upcoming bundle of joy your sister, friend or neighbor is having? Or, better yet…do you wish you had a fun and creative Baby Shower theme/idea for the shower you are throwing? Today, we are going to solve both of those tiny dilemmas with a fabulously adorable and so, so fun Baby Shower Headband Station. Melanie from Find it, Make it, Love it threw a headband making Baby Shower for her sweet sister-in-law, Steffany, where all the attendees made the most adorable headbands for the sweet baby girl who will soon be making her big debut! Enjoy!

Hi Ribbon Retreat followers! It’s Mel and Steff from Find it, Make it, Love it where we share all kinds of projects from kids crafts to furniture refinishing. We are so excited to be here at The Ribbon Retreat to share this Baby Shower Headband Station!

Steffany is expecting a little girl in April and she thought a headband station would be so fun to have at her baby shower – she was right! Naturally, we turned to The Ribbon Retreat for all the supplies, because they have the BEST stuff for the BEST prices. We had her shower and are so excited to share the headband station with you – it was a HIT!

Here’s what you need:

Flower Button

Before the baby shower, make all the headbands.
We cut the elastic to 12 inches for each headband.

Use a lighter to singe the ends to prevent any fraying.

Hot glue the ends, and the headband is done!

Also before the shower, cut lots of felt squares and rectangles for the flower clusters to be glued to.

Now for the Headband Station set up!

We placed all the pre-made elastic headbands in a cute basket, and all the felt pieces in a small bowl.

It’s a good idea to include a few completed headbands as examples. Need to know how to make cluster headbands? We found a few great tutorials from The Ribbon Retreat HERE, HERE, and HERE. We used clothespins and a chicken wire frame for the sample headbands – AND all the other headbands can be added to the frame as they are made.

Be sure to plug in the hot glue gun just before the baby shower starts so it’s ready to go when the guests get in headband making mode.

A cute jar with plenty of glue sticks – we don’t want to run out! 🙂

What a fun activity for baby shower guests… and the mommy-to-be gets to go home with a beautiful array of headbands for her sweet baby girl! The work station set-up is perfect–guests can wander over, two or three at a time during the party, while the other guests eat, admire the shower gifts, and spend some time with the mommy-to-be.♥

If you don’t mind, I’d like to suggest that it might be better to pre-cut the elastic to 13 1/2 inches (1/2 inch is built in for overlapping), which should fit most newborns up to about age 4 months. I know that 12-inch lengths would yield 3 headbands per yard instead of only 2, but I’d like to see the little one get longer use out of her gorgeous headbands! (But that’s just me!)

Thank you for sharing your wonderful idea, Melanie and Steffany. All the best to you, Steffany, as you await Berkley’s arrival! xoxo

Love this idea! Having a baby shower for my sister at the end of the month and am totally hoping to pull this off for her! A couple questions though: #1, what are the square and rectangle pieces of felt used for. I could quite figure it out or see it in the pictures.
Also, I see on the website recommendations for size headbands for different ages of baby. Did you make all the same size at the party or different sizes? Thanks!

Hi Sandra! Thank you so much for your comment! I am so glad you love this fun Headband Station. The square and rectangle pieces of felt are used to attach flowers together prior to attaching them to the headband. Melanie and Steffany did make all of the headbands the same size for a new baby. They plan to make new headbands as the little baby girl grows! I hope this helps. Have so much fun with a station like this of your own and have a great day! Michelle 🙂

hi! what are the felt elastics for? thanks!

    • The Ribbon Retreat
      Posted February 22, 2016 at 8:01 am | Permalink

Hi Eloisa! Thank you for your question. You would use the felt circles to sandwich the elastic between. For example, you would take a flower or multiple flowers and glue them onto a felt circle(s). Then you would hot glue your elastic headband to the felt circles. You could leave it that way or for a cleaner look you could then hot glue felt circles to the under side of the elastic headband/flower combo to get a clean smooth surface to place against your little girl’s head. For a blog tutorial on how to do this exact thing, check out this Cluster Headband Tutorial. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a wonderful day! Michelle 🙂
